LAUNCH!

I’ve been invited by a friend to attend his rocketry club’s semiannual launch weekend. It’s time to watch tubes fling themselves into the sky on small pillars of fire!

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t know this guy, but he’s in the club.

It’s going to be a FANTASTIC weekend!

That sounds like a BLAST! I got invited to a Halloween party tonight. I don’t have a costume and therefore don’t feel like going but will probably get a bunch of shit for not going.

TSD road rally in Kettle Moraine State Forest in Wisconsin with a few friends including one who is a fellow Oppo. Gonna cruise around, very mathematically/precisely, enjoying the pretty fall colors.

Then watching the Mexico Grand Prix with the Chicago F1 group. The viewing is sponsored by Haas F1, and they’re gonna have prizes to give away!

Let’s hope it’s more launch than blast. No booms, please.

I understand about the party, though. I never enjoy myself at those events.

For some reason I thought that in your post it asked what everyone else’s plans were for the weekend too. Now I just look like a self-centered douche. haha

Holy Nostalgia Batman! I used to love making/launching these as a kid. The best was trying to catch them as they came down.

The most exciting moment was one time when someones engine misfired. The rocket climbed slowly to about 6-7 feet in the air, then canted over and started corkscrewing horizontaly directly at the line of cars and an on looker. It probably went about 25 feet before the chute popped ten feet in front of this kid! A scary moment but no one was hurt.

I once acquired a box worth of partially defective model rocket motors then proceeded to attach them to anything that wasn’t a model rocket. It was a good time.
